MSME Machinery Loan Guide: Margin, DSCR and Repayment

What machinery loans finance
A machinery term loan may fund eligible new plant and machinery and associated project costs, subject to lender policy. Banks normally examine the project’s technical viability, supplier quotations, installation timetable and repayment cash flows.
Project cost and margin
For an illustrative machinery project costing ₹50 lakh with an assumed promoter contribution of 25%, the promoter contributes ₹12.50 lakh and the proposed term loan is ₹37.50 lakh. These are example assumptions, not a universal banking norm.
Assessment documents
Prepare quotations, projected profitability and cash flow, existing financial statements, GST and tax records, implementation schedule, permissions where required and a clear explanation of how the equipment improves production or revenue.
DSCR and repayment
Debt service coverage ratio (DSCR) compares cash available for debt service with scheduled principal and interest obligations, subject to the lender’s defined methodology. Stress-test sales, operating margins and repayment schedules using our DSCR calculator.
Other considerations
Compare fixed versus floating rates, moratorium, repayment tenor, collateral or guarantee options, insurance and potential cost overruns. Confirm eligibility for any subsidy directly with the relevant implementing agency.
Machinery loan interest rates: what changes the quote?
Machinery loan pricing may vary with borrower financial strength, equipment type and resale value, tenure, promoter contribution, collateral, lender benchmark and applicable risk spread. Compare processing charges and repayment terms alongside the stated interest rate. For new machinery, keep supplier quotations, installation estimates and realistic commissioning dates.
