What does the working capital gap mean?
This simplified tool adds stock, receivables and other operating current assets, then deducts trade creditors and other spontaneous current liabilities. The result represents the net operating funding requirement before considering borrower contribution, existing bank borrowings and other adjustments.
The illustrative finance after margin applies your chosen margin to a positive gap. It is not a bank sanction amount, a drawing-power calculation or a representation of any particular bank’s MPBF method.
Example for an MSME
With stock ₹35 lakh, receivables ₹28 lakh and other operating assets ₹2 lakh, total operating assets are ₹65 lakh. Deducting ₹20 lakh creditors and ₹3 lakh other operating liabilities leaves a ₹42 lakh gap. A purely illustrative 25% borrower margin leaves ₹31.5 lakh as a funding illustration, not a commitment from any lender.
Important bank appraisal considerations
Actual assessments can depend on sales projections, operating cycle, eligible receivables, obsolete inventory, other current assets and liabilities, existing bank finance, promoter funds, margin norms and lender policy. For detailed explanations see working capital calculation, CMA data and current ratio versus net working capital.
